I need to know Larry is safe while I leave Faerie tonight. We can’t risk her. She’s too important. So I have Rigel and Octavia take her to the healing centre. There, she’s put under a heavy sedation; we still can’t get her to make sense or stop crying, and she needs the rest.

Holly joins her there, where she’ll spend the next twenty-four hours recovering. The damage to her organs was too extensive for Rigel and Octavia to heal in one sitting. Rigel has assigned a team of fae healers to her care, where they’ll work around the clock to heal her completely.

With Larry and Holly under Rigel’s protection, I organise a meeting in Fawn Manor. Octavia helps me make an oversized pot of coffee—telling everyone to help themselves if they need to—while the twins hand out the sight stones. When everyone is settled on the sofas, I begin stage one of my plan.

“Welcome to mission: screw over Alston. You’re all here because you play an integral role in saving Talaron and Faerie. This is a five-stage plan to take control from the king. To defeat your enemy, you must know your enemy. Which is why stage one is discovering his plan. Some of us have sight stones and will watch his speech tonight. They will relay every detail to those who wish to hear it.”

I flick my eyes to Rone, hoping I’m not overstepping. He already has plans in place with his resistance, but we can’t afford to wait for his pieces to come into play. We need to make our move now. He smiles, pride twinkling in his amber eyes.

“Okay, so we discover his plan. Then what?” asks Astrid.

“Then we implement stage two. It will run simultaneously with stage one, and I need volunteers. We need to rescue Achilles and Jania. Achilles is a significant player; he’s been a thorn in Alston’s side since he helped me escape Talaron when I was a baby. It’s something Alston will never forgive, and if he’s alive and on our side, we can taunt the king with that. A rage filled mind is a messy mind. He’ll make mistakes in his anger.”

“I’ll do it,” says Tempest. “I can go with Caspian. We can flash out with two people. If he’s willing, of course.”

We all turn to Caspian. “I can help, definitely. But we’ll need another. If we have an opportunity to rescue Finch, we’ll take it.”

“Are you sure, old friend?” asks Rone. “It will be dangerous.”

“I’ve hidden behind the mask of professor at Orion House for long enough. I have had a long life, and if anything should happen, I will be glad to give my life to this cause. Under his rule, Talaron is dying,” says Caspian.

I admire his bravery and poise and thank him for it before calling for another volunteer. Everyone is quiet, fidgeting. None of the girls want to return to those dungeons.

After several moments of silence, Sasi speaks up. “I’ll go. I can’t travel through the shadows with a passenger, but I’m able to get to safety if I need to.
